Waiting For Work
Waiting For Work
Reduction fired stoneware, walnut dollies, kiln bricks
2015

Our bodies move through space adjusting to the constant flow of physical or mental sates. This sense of movement becomes critical when we consider what is at stake in claiming cultural identities in complex social situations. The "pedestals" here mirror and reflect upon the reversibility inherent in social roles and identities. The work becomes tool when bricks are placed atop them, but they simultaneously subvert forms of legitimacy granted by the exhibition by creating alternate spatial relations more akin to service workers occupying the same place as the patrons and attendees. Though we are in the same physical place, our conceived sense of space can be dramatically different.
