A group of work I produced in February of 2020 and managed to fire before having to leave my studio in March due to Covid. There's some varying conceptual trajectories here ranging from my ongoing interest in landscape, tubes, crafted space, and what has become a digression into faces and masks.
My initial interest in these face-forms ,and a return to more figurative gestures, comes from an ongoing project i refer to as "beneath the bowl". this project explores an ethical inquiry of labor practices, restaurant work, and identity. so often we're presented overly curated experiences which seek to white-wash and hide those bodies which make commodities possible. when we flip the bowl over what do we see? what happens if we turn our attention to what supports and holds rather than the commodity framed and propped up?
these various conceptual threads have overlap with each other but I am happy to continue investigating a variety of ideas and forms distinct from each other.
